Valentine Decorations
Are you looking for some new innovative DIY Valentine Decorations? There is a new super easy way to make your own signs and decor for Valentine's Day, or for any other time of the year.

It's called Chalk Couture and it's completely transformed how I make my signs and home decor. I no longer have to use a cutting machine (Cameo, Cricut, etc...), spend tons of time designing or even weeding vinyl.
Chalk Couture makes reusable silkscreen transfers. It's similar to how t-shirts are silkscreened. You use Chalk Paste, which is much thicker than Chalk Paint, and squeegee it through the silkscreen on to your work surface.
The Chalk Paste is water soluble and can be washed off with water. Meaning, you can make your design temporary, for like a Chalkboard and seasonal decor, or you can seal it with a Spray Poly and make it permanent.
They are also fun to mix and match screens from different sets.
For these Valentine's Day Signs we used:
Imagine adding these fun little signs to your desk, hutch, counter, mantle or even attached to a wreath.
I made these in a matter of minutes and was able to duplicate my designs quickly without having to spend hours on a cutting machine.
The transfers can be applied to Chalkboards, Wood, Glass, Mirrors, Ceramic, Canvas, Tile, Metal and even fabric (you need to use a product like Speedball to adhere the design to fabric).
Unless you're using a Chalk Couture Chalkboard, your surface will need to be prepped, but don't worry, this is an easy step.
I like to prep my wood, handmade chalkboards and metal with Amy Howard Clear Wax. You need a barrier because most surfaces are porous. You want something smooth for the chalk paste to stick to. This will also help your transfers last longer.
Once the wax is applied, let it dry for about 30 minutes and then buff with a clean lint free rag. We use old t-shirts.
Now you're ready to go. We have tons of videos showing how easy this is to apply.
Once you're done, wash your transfers with warm water and then wipe both sides with an Anti-Bacterial Wipe (not baby wipes). This helps your transfer remain sticky and keeps the Chalk Paste out of the silkscreen in the transfer. Let them air dry before you use them again. (Here's some tips for cleaning your transfers.)
There are some other considerations for using the Transfers on surfaces like Glass, Windows and Tile. You can read more about those applications here.
The last step is sealing (if you want it to be permanent). We like to use a Matte Spray Polycrylic.
